Places to find Laserdiscs in Japan ? (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka), reddit /r/laserdisc
before VCR i only had a laserdisc player, and there were only four movies to watch at my house (indiana jones 3, star wars episode 6, fantasia, leaving las vegas). the last movie released on laserdisc in the US came out in 2000. then this week i learned that laserdisc was way more popular in japan, and if i go to the junk section of a chain of stores called hard-off, i can fulfill my lifelong dream of having a fifth laserdisc movie. things are looking up more and more every day :)
google search for ‘why do bees make honey’
if you can believe it, this question had never before crossed my mind, and then i learned that honey is actually bee food made by bees, and not just what makes mediterranean desserts great? imagine walking into vons or jons and just buying a jar of hay that some horses grew for themselves. this honey situation is becoming a real problem for me, and i wasn’t ready to think about the ethics of baklava.
fire truck for sale - $4,000 (julian / san diego), craigslist
“Asking $4000.00 O.B.O. or a possible trade up or down...” it’s not the trade down that gets me (every vehicle is a trade down from a fire truck), but the trade up - when you’re living the fire truck dream, what other vehicle could possibly satisfy you? plus, it has just 50K miles on it in 40 years, so it’s really only just starting to depreciate. this is not a fire truck. this is a fire investment. if you’re interested in investment i recommend the bogleheads wiki, plus this fire truck, but remember: i am not a financial advisor.
The Next Frontier of the NFT Gold Rush: Your Tweets, wired
i’ve been reading a lot about NFTs, and i still don’t get them, but then i found this article and learned that you can sell your tweets? i delete almost all of my tweets, because tweeting is bad and embarrassing, but if you’d like to own a blockchain piece of the only time i’ve ever publicly bragged about anything, i am accepting all serious offers.
‘lights (journey song)’, wikipedia
this song, about san francisco, was written about los angeles, and all it took was changing ‘LA’ to ‘bay’ to turn it into a hit. i started to wonder, could any song change completely with the twist of a rhyme? and then i couldn’t think of any, except maybe ‘born in the USDA’ (bruce springsteen’s ironic juxtaposition of the hard life of a cattleman, and the governmental agency that regulates him) or ‘the ballad of zen-da and eddie’ (if the brenda and eddie section of billy joel’s ‘scenes from an italian restaurant’ was about eddie discovering zen buddhism in his youth, and then the inevitable friction as he gets older and grows apart from it leads to his eventual renunciation).
